Extended Access Service

Walsall PCN Group > Services > Extended Access Service

Since April 2020, the Walsall PCNs have jointly comissioned OurNet Health Services Ltd to provide a Walsall Extended Access Service to allow patients increased access to primary care appointments.

The service is open weekday evening, weekends and bank holidays and is operated from two hubs, the Walsall North Hub (Pinfold Health Centre, WS3 3JP) and the Walsall South Hub (Broadway Medical Centre.)

Patients from all Walsall practices can access these appointments by calling 01922 501999. The service is not an urgent care centre or walk-in-centre and hence an appointment is needed. The clinics are staffed by a diverse range of clinicians, including; General Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Pharmacists.

Who would benefit from this service?

This service is available to all Walsall patients and in particular would benefit those who:

  • find it difficult to attend an appointment during the working day;
  • rely on working carers to take you to appointments outside of core hours; or
  • are unable to obtain an appointment with their GP practice.

How can I book an appointment?

This is not a walk-in service. To book an appointment please call the OurNet Centre on 01922 501999. OurNet is able to book same and next day appointments.

What can I be seen for?

An Extended Access appointment is similar to obtaining an appointment with your GP practice, when calling the OurNet Centre you will be asked for the reason of your appointment which will then be passed to the consulting clinician. Please note that the Extended Access Service is unable to provide Sick Notes.

Will I see my own GP and/or nurse?

Not necessarily. You will be seen by an experienced clinician employed by the service provider, OurNet Health Services Ltd, but it is unlikely that you will be seen by your own registered GP. If you prefer to see your usual GP, please book an appointment with your own GP practice during our normal opening hours.

Will the clinician I see have access to my medical record during my appointment?

Your medical record will, with your consent, be available to the clinician that sees you, to ensure that they have the information they need to be able to provide you with the best possible care. A record of this appointment will be sent back to your own GP practice electronically to ensure that your GP medical record is kept up-to-date. An appointment with the service will be just like an appointment at this practice.

What if I require an interpreter or additional support to attend my appointment?

When requesting an appointment please advise the call handler if you will require an interpreter. This will then be booked for you. If you require any other support, please speak with a member of our team by calling 01922 501999 who will be happy to help.
